I also think this is the way it will go, so sorry mp, you must be wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I do want to keep Braverman around for the future and I think he's got a shot to be something. I was stoked when we drafted him as he was one of those dark horse sleeper guys I read about and it's hard not to root for the guy. But Meredith has outplayed him in PS and the other reserves have ST ability which Braverman clearly doesn't yet.
If I were Pace I'd drop Royal and keep Braverman on the roster. Let him learn on the job as the 2nd slot receiver. He'll get 10ish snaps a game at first and won't have to return punts with Mariani around. Time to start taking chances with bottom of the roster talent.
So why not cut all the vets and just keep the rookies? This is rhetorical hyperbole, but seriously what has Braverman done? Next to nothing positive in PS games.
Deonte Thompson is another young receiver who not only showed some skill last year in KR duties and as a speedy vert threat receiver, but also flashes this PS before the injury.
Thompson is a better option than Braverman.
The most frustrating thing about Braverman is that everyone projects him as a stud. Why? I just don't get it. He's done VERY little to suggest he'll be a star yet almost everyone on this board and dabears.com is convinced of it. Why is Braverman the future of the franchise and not Meredith or Thompson or anyone else on the roster. What has he shown other than his ability to get hype tweets during TC. Reminds me of Marq. Wilson - highlight reel in practice, glass statue in the reg season.

I agree that Braverman is far from a finished product. He could benefit greatly from a year on the PS. But I am afraid that he'll get snatched up of we release him.
The day I went to TC he was making some very spectacular and difficult catches. If there were any scouts at camp (I don't know if teams scout each other's TCs), he could easily be gone if we cut him.

I understand what you are saying. I don't think Braverman is 100% certain to stud it out. He's a 7th round draft pick with a career expectany of about 2 seasons on the PS and maybe riding the bench as the 5th receiver in like..San Diego.
However...this has always been my belief. You know what Royal and Mariani can do, we seen it. Well in Royal's case maybe not seen it but you get the idea. Why not take a position at which you have 'depth' (Jeffery/White/Meredith/Bellamy/Mariani) and take a chance on a young draft pick? Worst case scenario he gets waived 5-6 games into the season and you add a street FA was your 6th WR. Best case scenario he's better than the guy you cut.
I had this same position on the Hoyer signing. They know what Hoyer is capable of, why not take a chance on something better. Teams do this all the time, sometimes with starters. Vikings had Chester Taylor coming off a 1200+ season when they drafted Peterson. In this case we aren't even talking about a starting position, its the number 6 guy on a depth chart. Teams churn that position over all the time.
As far as Thompson goes, I don't think he's even going to be on the roster. Look for him to be injury/waived this weekend. Thompson is another bottom of the roster guy. Mariani will be returning kicks and punts.
He didnt do enough, he just got cut. ProFootballTalk @profootballtalk Bears cut WR Daniel Braverman, a seventh-round pick in 2016.
Lot of fans won't like it cause he was hyped so much in TC but it was the right move given how little he showed as a WR and as a KR/PR. Maybe he turns into a stud slot receiver but I don't know what he's done for everyone to be so convinced of it unless there more than 4 PS games and I missed them and he fucking lit them up.
Did he do enough? No Now it's a matter of him clearing waivers if they hope to keep him on the PS. Risky move and not necessarily one I agree with but we'll see if it works.
Chicago Bears release WR Daniel Braverman Aug 27, 2016; Chicago, IL, USA; By: Bryan Perez | 45 minutes ago
Rookie wide receiver Daniel Braverman enjoyed a quick start to the Bears’ 2016 training camp, but his lack of production during the preseason led to his release today, as reported by Pro Football Talk.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, and we touched on the possibility of Braverman getting cut here.
There’s still a chance that the Western Michigan product will be stashed on the Bears’ practice squad if he clears waivers, which is highly probable considering his inability to make any impact plays this summer.
His release also increases the odds that Cameron Meredith did enough to earn the last wide receiver spot on the active roster.
In addition to Braverman, the Chicago Bears have released long snapper Patrick Scales and offensive tackle Jason Weaver.
The release of Weaver should all but solidify a roster spot for Mike Adams, who was added to the roster on August 10. Adams will serve as the team’s swing tackle in 2016 after starting 20 games for the Steelers between 2012 and 2014. He missed all of 2015 while recovering from a back injury but has proven to be healthy enough to, presumably, earn a roster spot with the Bears for 2016.
Scales was in a training camp battle with free-agent addition Aaron Brewer for long snapper duties, but the coaching staff’s familiarity with Brewer during his time in Denver likely broke the tie.

Important note: We are 11th in line (same as our draft position) to make waiver claims. We stand a fairly decent chance of booking him to the practice squad as long as another team doesn't put him on their 53 man roster. I like our odds of him clearing waivers.
