This may be a parallel situation to Long. A probowl player at G that will only be ok at another position. Has anyone seen him play C?
I found this tweet by Bran Biggs to be interesting:

Obviously, would need a 3rd move if they were to sign former #Packers G Josh Sitton. If Sitton came on board, my guess is Whitehair to C.
I don't see Whitehair as a good option at center. I'd much rather Whitehair sat the bench with Larsen taking center reps and Sitton taking reps at LG. Remember, Long has a labral tear and might need to take some time off during the reg season. In that event, Sitton is the perfect signing. He can fill in at LG and provide stability in the event ANY of the interior OL players take time off due to injury.
I'm not knowledgeable about what Whitehair could do at center. Maybe it would be a mistake. But just because a rookie struggled in his 2nd pre-season game, shouldn't be considered definitive evidence of him not being able to play there this year. I figure he'll probably struggle a bit wherever they play him as a rookie. And granted, maybe he'd be a disaster at center. But I'm not worried about what he did in that pre-season game.
Your point about him sitting on the bench could be a good one.
TBH, I'd though for sure Pace would **** this up and find a way to look a gift horse (Sitton's unexpected availability) in the mouth. Glad to be wrong.
We now have the NFL's best guard duo with Larsen or Whitehair manning center (TL is a far better C than G IMO). There's depth on the interior once again. Keep in mind that Sitton has played some RT in the past so he's a backup option there if need be as well.
This is a good move by Pace that makes up for his Slauson/Ramirez screwup which admittedly wasn't entirely his fault.
In one fell lucky swoop, he made the Bears stronger while the Packers got weaker. Anything that narrows that gap is a good thing.
I'm looking forward to watching his 1st game vs. the Frack . I'm betting he'll have his armor on at max capacity and be ready to use it to full effect . I know I'd be ready to pancake a few people .
So this is where I am looking to see some coaching magic. I want to see how they reshuffle the line. There is no doubt that Sitton is a good guard. The question is.... is Long hurt and so do they just make the easy decision to put him at Longs position? If not, that's where it gets interesting. We have good Guards right now. So unless Long is hurt, you don't throw 10M at someone just to have a third good G. They plan on moving the line around to cover C. Question is... do we really have a good C in the bunch. In other words, 10M on a C right now would have been great for a probowl C. Instead we got a Probowl G. How do we strengthen the line by making the right decisions? What will the line look like? Any guesses? The wild card is Long. Is he going to play or not?
It's a good question . Do they make Long have surgery now ? do they make Whitehair a backup ? can Sitton play C ? will they move Sitton to RT if Massie falters ( I've heard rumblings he's not "all that" ) ? We'll know by next week . Anyway you slice it tho this should make the line better .

These are the questions that try men's souls.....

- and what we hold dear are W's ( though I doubt the acquisition of a guard will make them all that much easier to come by , so I wouldn't get too excited - more hopeful yes , excited ? not yet )
