I posted it after the last pre season game. Stick a fork in him. He's done. Sad to see it, but we can't go into the season with a kicker who will cost us games.
Shitty move at this late stage in the game. Maybe he had advanced warning about it - I doubt it. This isn't just a tough move for the player who's only known one team his whole life, it's a tough move for his family relying on the pay AND now having to figure out this year on the fly.
Also, to your last point. Don't assume that the kext kicker we get is not going to cost us games. I imagine kickers who don't cost games are already signed for the year.
Now we're going to get a second rate kicker whose skills are probably worse than Goulds AND who doesn't' have any chemistry with the long snapper and holder or the Bear's system and we're going to give him less than 1 week to get ready for the Texans... That's a fail IMHO by Pace. Get a plan in place before you act. Be prepared. If you have reservations about a guy get his replacement before you release him and make sure he's an improvement.
It's a disrespectful move to a lifelong Bear - the leading all time Bear scorer - AND it's a terrible way to welcome someone new into the fold. They definitely are not setting him up to succeed.
Pace must be desperate for money to sign some players. If not, he just ****ed up big time.
I feel bad for Robbie but good things come to an end and he's had a very good career. He sucked in the PS and didn't deserve to keep his job after key missed kicks last season. I do agree the timing is a bit off.

I agree with JABF. I wanted Gould replaced in the offseason or at least competed against. Stupidly, they didn't do that and Gould's terrible PS performance proved them wrong. It's a little late now.
Who are they gonna get?
There are some veteran kickers available. Haven't done exhaustive research but Josh Scobee and Conner Barth come to mind.
Let's not cry for RG. He's made millions for a niche skill he no longer has in sufficient quantity. He should have been released shortly after the draft.

Agreed. I was hoping for competition in TC. And when he missed two PATs in the last PS game, I was wondering what was going to happen.

I just can't see going into a season with a guy who will probably cost you wins. I think the Bears were hoping he could be okay for one last season. But when you can't even hit extra points - that is a problem.
Nothing against Robbie Gould. It's not the Bears fault Robbie can't get it done anymore.
Regarding your point about Robbie's family. I honestly don't follow that. This is a man who is in his 12th NFL season who has made millions of dollars. He and his family are set for life - to the point we could only DREAM of for our families. Robbie has been well-compensated for many years. Robbie has lived the dream. While I am sad his career had to end this way (and I am) I won't shed any tears for his family. I wish my family was as set for life as his is. Seriously.

Robbie and his family have had stability for the past 11 years. They developed a norm which includes and considers his NFL salary and the lifestyle that entails. They have a home in the Chicago area. Their family has gotten used to the routines, money and expectations of the life Robbie's work has allowed for. I do feel for a human being when their life is upturned without notice and without consideration to the individual - especially when that individual has been an enormous asset to an organization.
Just because the dudes lifestyle is on a different scale than mine doesn't mean I can't empathize with the struggle that comes with sudden change.

I can feel bad about anyone losing their job. Not just people playing sports for a living. And honestly I do. But we have a nation of people who's families couldn't even DREAM of having what Robbie's got. Or what his family has. I'm all for Gould getting millions and a fat pension. But keep it real here. Hard working - good people are losing jobs, pensions - and families are feeling REAL hurt just trying to put food on the table and a roof over their family's heads.
Good for Robbie living the dream - and his family benefiting by this. But he and his family will be just fine. A 12 year NFL career is a priceless gift that will keep on giving until they die.

Fox had this guy on the Broncos in 2014. He's just a guy, but that was looking more and more like what Gould became.
justanotherbearsfan9, i know it's a joke to everyone but K is still a special athlete. only 32 in the world start every Sunday in the pros. Gould had a long career here, and i hope he (along with EVERY player) had enough sense to save a large portion of his earnings considering the timeframe of his profession. I am not going to begrudge a guy for making more money than me because he has the talent (and most likely effort) to out earn me. i get someone with a lower paid job would likely be harder hit by termination but that guy also isn't required to nail 30y extra points 99% of the time to keep his job.
