Yep, just keep bringing them in until you find the next Robbie.
FWIW, Pace just said in his presser that they waited until Barth was available to decide to move on from Gould. I strongly suspect that Barth was Fox's choice.
No doubt but he wasn't Elway or the Broncos choice since they replaced him after Fox left. I hope it works out for us but IMHO we could have and should have done better.
Was cap savings part of it? Yeah, probably. Was it the main or only factor? I doubt it. We are talking about a net of only $2m or so here after adding in Barth's salary.
My best guess reading the tea leaves is that they decided to ride with Gould again (didn't draft or sign a FA for competition) but when he looked shaky in PS they had second thoughts. They waited until the guy they (Fox) wanted was available to make the move. I find it hard to believe it would have happened if Gould had been money this August.

My gut feeling is that is exactly how it went down ^^^^^
Look, I'm not gonna get into any more wind and weather discussions when the facts speak for themselves. We've all seen the impact of the winds at SF on kicking. The winds and late fall and winter weather around Chicago are legendary and it's not like I never lived there or never visited during the winter months after moving away. It is what it is and that's all there is to it.
I also have a very very good handle on the weather in Denver as well. (Wink Wink)
Now, on a more useful note I found something interesting that would help to settle my mind as far as why they felt Barth might be an improvement over Gould and his has little to with leg strength which was at least one issue that was being debated.
I want to be fair with the actual facts here because to me debate should be based around facts that support our opinions. So with that in mind here's some info that helped me to understand Fox's thinking and helped sway my opinion of this whole deal somewhat.
QUOTE; "Barth has appeared in 83 NFL games over seven seasons with the Chiefs, Buccaneers and Broncos, making 84.8 percent of his field-goal attempts (139 of 164). Since 2010, the North Carolina product has made 63 of 64 tries from 20-39 yards."
Given this info we have new data to chew on. PATs are now 32-33 yards in length which falls into that one 30-40 yard area where Robbie Gould has always been most inconsistent and below his overall average. Barth on the other hand is 98.4% accurate from that range. Robbie's accuracy from 40 yards and beyond however was much better than Barth's. So there's the trade off. We may need to attempt fewer FGs from 40 yards out it would seem if we expect to have success with Barth compared to Robbie Gould.
To me this move will probably turn out the way it turned out when Jeff Jaeger replaced Butthead - he had a solid track record , and his time w the Bears was also solid ( till he jacked up his hip ) . Gouldie was hooking alot of his kicks recently , and that's indicative of not having enough power behind them . Hopefully Barth will be better and more consistent ... but even if he isn't , they needed to try something different .
On the peculiar timing of the release of Gould, which came Sunday night, a day after the Bears had submitted their initial 53-man roster
“We’ve signed Connor Barth. So, for us, it was just (a situation) where if a specific player becomes available and we know that we’re able to acquire that player, then this is something we need to entertain or discuss. So that’s kind of how it played out. When we knew this guy would be available for us, it made the switch a possibility.”
I wouldn't have said it this way. If Barth sucks, everybody will hold that against Pace. He should have said nothing much about the reasons why. Just thank Robbie and that you felt it was time to move on.

I believe he wanted to say that they didnt want to get rid of Gould (that bad), just that when 'their guy' became available, they couldnt pass on it

yes, that's what he wanted to say. It's just, it doesn't make any sense to say it this way. What if HIS guy sucks? Barth may not be better and they just cutted the Bears leading scorer and Team vet for him. Just say this wasn't about the Person and that he thanks him for his time. He'll always be remembered and move on. Better than saying he sucks, we wanted to get a better guy that isn't even that great.

Ok, but he wanted to justify himself because Robbie was an important player for Da Bears, it isnt just anybody

it's even worse then... saying we only cut him because a better, not great guy just got available. This tells him, that he is done and sucks. If he is that important, you wouldn't say that we just cut him for 3 Million savings and he got replaced by a Player that may not be even better than him.
