Hoyer looked terrible against the Pats and I haven't seen enough of Fales or Shaw. The trouble is that there are just not enough quality backups to go around so they just may have to keep either one to develop and hope for a injury free saeason for J.C. At this point my vote goes to Fales.
never say yes to a vet backup; unless you have a young starter. Just keep drafting qb's in the first 4 rounds every 2-3 years until you have your starter and backup; and the backup probably shouldn't stay more then that rookie contract.

Well said. Keep dumpster diving in FA for a backup until you draft someone who looks like an eventual starter. And like you said, keep drafting QBs somewhere in the first 3 or 4 rounds until you find "The One".
When did we (last) draft a qb in the first 3-4 rounds? I dont even remember
Orton. Btw, the last good QB the Bears drafted; it netted them Cutler when he was thrown in w/a few other 1sts. Den wanted Orton over Campbell; which was the deciding factor. Correct choice btw. While neither ended up being legit long term starters, Orton was a better "backup"/placeholder.
This makes me wonder if they are trying to fly one of them under the radar so they can stash him on the practice squad. If there isn't much exposure or film for other teams to look at they may just pull it off.
