Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler praises Dowell Loggains for steady approach

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and his offensive coordinator, Dowell Loggains, have a strong relationship that goes all the way back to 2006 when Cutler was in the draft. Loggains was an assistant with the Tennessee Titans at the time and lobbied hard for them to draft Cutler out of Vanderbilt.
It didn’t happen, and the two have been trying to get together ever since.
They got their wish last year, when the Bears hired Loggains as their quarterbacks coach. During their first season together, Loggains, and last year’s offensive coordinator Adam Gase, helped Cutler register a career high 92.3 passer rating, along with 21 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions.
Loggains was elevated to offensive coordinator this offseason after Gase left for Miami.
Cutler spoke to the media after Thursday’s practice, and praised Loggains for his steady approach on offense and setting the tone in practice.
“Dowell [Loggains] sets the tone every day,” said Cutler. “There’s never a gray area in that world with him. He sets the tone, sets the standard, and if you don’t live up to that and meet those expectations, he’s going to be vocal and he’s going to let you know. As a player, that’s all you can ask for is a coach telling you how to do it, and when you don’t do it, you expect him to push you and help you achieve those things.”
Loggains is running the same offensive system from last year. Cutler has been in full command of the Bears’ offense in camp and is picking up from where he left off last season. Another year in the same system has proved to be beneficial for him.
This could be the year his rating goes over 100.0, that would guarantee us 9-10 wins
We can only hope. It's not out of the question though. Not if the run game works well and we keep our top WRs on the field all year long. He hit 92 and change last year without most of that.

Maybe Loggains will design a ball control game management system. Anyone seen any trace of this type of offense during the first 2 PS games.
Sorta is what I'd say. They mixed it up more against NE and their execution was much better and with the exception of one longer pass to AJ they didn't go downfield much at all. The big gainer to Housler from Hoyer came on an intermediate crossing pattern and most of the yardage was after the catch.
I expect we'll see even more of the base offense this week and then we'll have a better idea of what Loggains plans to do. The nice thing is he's got very good tools to work with both in the passing game and the running game so he doens't need to be one dimensional and from week to week he can game plan around the other guys weaknesses pretty effectively. The only question is how good is he at doing that and in making in game adjustments when something isn't working.

I hope so Soul but with the injuries to the OLine I wonder how effective they will be I the 2 or 3 quarters we will see the 1st unit play.

Cutler needs time, he loves to hold the ball and find someone deep. Without time he is always going to be average. I don't see us getting him the required time this year.
I always take what Cutler says about his OC's w/a grain of salt, it is always sunshine and lollipops at first; then at some point it turns into fumartz

I'm expecting Long to return for the opener but I don't expect to see him anymore in preseason. His being out gives some reps to the backups which may actually be good since those are the spots being fought for and are still undecided.
To me the key is getting that starting five set and coordinated but getting the backups some reps is important too. That zone scheme is like a dance that depends less on raw power and more on timing and cohesiveness as it does on size. Getting that all down will govern how well the run game works.
They did well against NE so we'll see how well they have it down tonight with Long out.
