CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If the third preseason game is indeed an indication of which players will make the team and which will not, it's certainly not a good sign for Patriots defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, who was considered to be one of the club's top signings in free agency.
Knighton, who struggled a week ago against Chicago, did not log a single defensive snap during New England's 19-17 Friday night win over Carolina.
Afterward, the 350-pound Knighton confirmed that he is "100 percent healthy."
"It's disappointing just because, you know, I've played a lot of ball in this league, seen a lot of things," Knighton said. "I'm not going to make too much of it. It is what it is. Whatever happens, happens. If I'm here, I'm here. If I'm not, I'm not. I'm just taking it a day at a time."
Knighton added, "I've still got a lot of ball left in me, so it is what it is."
Would it be worth a vet minimum contract to have him backup Goldman or try to fix whatever is wrong and have him slide into the NT position and slide Goldman outside?
Not when I saw him trot off the field winded after one series in the Pats game. Pot Roast has reached the Fridge stage of his career after Fridge ate one too many off season biscuits only in Knighton's case it was one too many helpings of pot roast and mashed.

Gotta love these protests though. Has anyone ever seen a quote from a vet whose been released where he's saying, "It's all good ya' know. I know I suck a bit by now and I'm too fat, too slow, and too lazy these day. I'd just be sitting on the bench 3/4 of the game and showing up Monday's to collect my paycheck. They were right to let me go."

The only reason I brought it up was because in the offseason there was some speculation Goldman could slide over to DE if we had a proper NT manning the middle. I didn't most of the Patriots and was not aware some of his issues were weight and conditioning related. Thought it was more technique.

Knighton played for Fox in Denver. He was available the year Fox took over and we took a pass on him then. Most of the speculation then was his weight and commitment to a diet, strength and conditioning program. At that time he was over 340 and had added weight since the end of Denver's season that year (like in 3 or 4 weeks).
IMO if Fox had liked Knighton then, he would have already been a Bear.

I tend to think so too. We may have had an interest a year ago but the 'Skins paid him well and as usual got burned. The Pats picked him up and thought he was a key addition but he didn't even survive 'til the final cuts. IMHO that pretty much means he's got nothing left to give.
I'd much rather we hold on to our own Pot Roast in the form of Terry Williams. He shed the weight he was asked to and I really think that kid would be starting for us if we didn't have Goldman.
