The real thanks go to Alex Miljan our Croation Bear (sounds kinda fierce doesn't it). I mean like compared to a Jamaican Bear who'd be all laid back and shit and stoned a lot. Can't win many games that way.
Seriously though this was Alex's idea and Ric and I were all for it and pledged our support. But the real thanks and gratitude goes out to the members themselves because without you guys we wouldn't have much of a fan forum so many thanks to all of you for coming on board and contributing. Really. This is turning out even better than expected and I promise we'll keep it this way.
If you guys hadn't shown up it would have been one post a day with Ric and I bickering over Cutler and poor Alex trying to referee.
So thanks to all of you for saving us from that. LOL
hey Soul, its Croatian Bear Bill would be angry, so would Pete
Oh I knew that. Just wanted to see if you were listening. LOL
Don't know what's wrong with me. My spelling is better than that. Sorry. Must be the drugs.....or maybe the lack thereof? LOL
A little I can take yes and THAT is actually one of the best.
I can take a bit of pretty much any music genre. I was dead against country music at 1 time using the reason being the fact that I have native in me and the genre is based on lynching and raping the culture and native peoples. But as I got a bit older I started to listen more and not just judge it by the hats or boots they wear. I can dig some of it now. It really is all about opening up the mind and just listen to the words , feel the groove the bassline fronts, Allowing the beat to take ya away..Na i mean boi? I can appreciate all forms but I am a little bit less tolerable to newer forms of rap. I loved the older rap stuff from mid to late 80's but the form has gone a bit weird. The new netflix show called the Get Down showcases how the rap scene took form from scratching old funk, soul, and even disco music to form a background for them to rap over. I know there is a stigma of Rap and Hip-Hop that they are devoid of music talents but again if only people opened the mind and understand that there are countless records, genres that then the younger generation would listen to just to find a unique sound or beat to turn it into something else entirely different. In fact I have my younger daughter listening to Isley Brothers, James Brown, Parliment just so she can understand where some of the more modern music is coming from. And you know what? she is now listening to some of this music on her own. She Loves Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Beatles, The Godfather of Soul, Temptations...list goes on and all because of a couple of simple samples. I also understand the arguement that musicians should and must be paid for their tireless work but I think back then, they truely didnt think that the rap scene would grow so big. Anyways not sure why I went off there but it felt good to get it of my chest, I guess it is because I am going to see 1 of these old school rap groups tonight and so stoked. Again awesome boards and sorry for my quasi-rant/troll bit and love you all ?
Well among us old rockers disco took a lot of work (gigs) away from us in the late '70s but I play a lot of bass and I have to admit disco in general has some of the best bass lines and bass driven dance beats that have ever been played and that's really the key to any dance music. It's all in the bass. It's just that we used to complain a lot about disco putting us out of work.
A lot of it is just good old fashioned soul and r&b with the beat turned around to give it more spring or "lift" in the feel. After a bit they style got so ingrained for a brief period of time even pure rock bands like The Stone were writing and recording it like "Miss You". I can't say that I prefer it to more classical r&b stuff but I have played it and the bass lines are fun.....and challenging at times too.

Maybe you guys should try some of the "alternative" country stuff coming out of Austin and the Texas hill country. Like Junior Brown and Kinky Friedman. Something like Frank Zappa meets Hank Williams.
Glad to see a site with the old posters. Looks great from what I have seen. Poked around for 1/2 an hour or so and read a few forums. It was great to see things stay on subject, a couple of polite disagreements, and the best part was the participants. Looking forward to an improved season and chat.

Great to see you!!!
As far as the polite disagreement goes, just give ric and soul enough time.

I've done some country too but less so than rock and r&b/soul and a lot of blues. But I've know about Kinky Friedman "The Texas Jewboy" for a long time.

LOL We're polite. We're nice. We know how to be nice. Well until it's time to not be nice anyway.
Actually "not nice" is reserved for moderating and only when necessary in case we are ever afflicted with an "invasion of the thread snatchers" which I doubt will happen since they don't know the secret password.......swordfish.
Moderating this site will be more like watching paint dry. On the whole this is a much more mature and sedate crowd. Or in my case "sedated" may be a better fit. For medicinal purposes only though. LOLOL
