"He sites the organizational dysfunction as a potential reason and notes that Johnson will be very selective."
The crappy 2nd tier candidates will take any job and be cheap for the McCaskey's to hire. But I do believe the Chicago Bears have some positives that could be enticing for a top tier head coaching candidate too. But the Bears will need to pay top dollar for a top head coach. And they will need to convince the guy that they have the skills to fix what is broken on the roster. There are some great young players on the roster already. But the needed linemen (both DL and OL) are not there yet. Shelton, Bates & Nate Davis additions were sure head scratchers to me. Maybe a head coach candidate will wonder if Poles can get it done there, or not. I don't know. But I do believe a top guy would consider coming here. Hopefully we don't see Caleb Williams carried out in a body bag with a career ending injury before the new HC can get here and begin to fix this mess.
Schefter and his annoying halting speech. As usual, Adam said NOTHING there. "If he leaves Detroit at all, he will be very selective about where he goes." Wow, groundbreaking news there Adam. Smh.
Adam said zero about "dysfunction" in Chicago keeping anyone from coaching there.
IF(big IF) Ben indeed does pursue a head coaching position after this season, every team he would be considering would be going through some "dysfunction." You don't fire your head coach if their isn't some "dysfunction" going on.
I just broke more news than Schefter did. Spare me that clown and his halting speech saying nothing.

He is hard to listen to. But he did talk about the dysfunction in Chicago and pointed out that Ben Johnson will be be selective where he goes. I know that is a "water is wet" statement. But the point is valid. This franchise has been dysfunctional for decades now - from ownership on down. I think we all understand that it isn't a slam dunk that Johnson would come to Chicago. That's not news, I'll admit. But it is frustrating that the franchise continues to be dysfunctional.

The panel was talking about dysfunction, and Adam said: "You were talking about dysfunction. If Ben Johnson does leave Detroit he is going to be very selective where he goes." Adam never says he wouldn't go to Chicago. He speculates about whether Ben would want to go anywhere with dysfunction, then says: "that is up to Ben Johnson." He has no clue what Ben Johnson or anyone associated with Ben thinks of the Bears situation. For all anyone knows Ben wants to go to Chicago because he thinks he can and wants the challenge of getting everything turned around. He would be a hero for the rest of time in Chicago. And would gain a legacy as one of the legendary coaches in the history of the NFL. That may be appealing.

I know we use that point as the opium of the masses of Bears fans... we trot that idea out every time we're hoping someone good will come here. I'm not saying it won't happen. And I do think a good coach could be triggered by the challenge of coming here. Others may think it is a negative. And I totally agree we don't know what Johnson is thinking as far as a future coaching job.
There is a rumor that Eberflus has a 5-year contract. The claim is that the McCaskeys are too “cheap” to fire him in 2025 because they don’t want to pay the dead money.

You come across as condescending but the fact of the matter is that you don't know shit either about what is going on inside Halas Hall. Schefter has broken a few stories and he has sources on occasion. What escapes people all the time is that this is a message board where people can enjoy differing opinions without being subjected to narrow opinions like yours. You need to tone it down.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my comment. You can have the opinion that Schefter is great, and doesn't have agendas with everything he says or writes. We can agree to disagree on that. I said nothing about what "goes on inside Halas Hall." Save your "don't know sh*t" comments for someone else. I don't play those little games. I said Schefter knows nothing about how Ben feels or how anyone associated with Ben feels about the Bears situation. If you are offended by how I feel about Adam Schefter then that is on you. Nothing "condescending" about my comment. You are entitled to your opinions and I am entitled to mine. Did you see me characterizing your opinions? Nope, yet you think you can say mine are "narrow." If anyone needs to "tone it down" it is you. Have a wonderful day!

IMO teams being able to attract quality candidates for head coaching positions often depends on if those coaches feel there is a really good GM that they feel they can work well with, one that will give them what they need to be successful.
Ben Johnson has witnessed Dan Campbell have one of the best GMs in the league giving him everything he needs, which enables him to be successful. Brad Holmes is without doubt a top 5 GM in the league. Would Ben view Ryan Poles as a GM he can work well with? Would he view him as a GM that would enable him to be successful?

+1 Yes, I agree. The HC would want to know if he has an interfering GM or one who gives him enough freedom to get it done here. Some teams have owners micro-managing the team, a recipe for failure for a new HC.
Also the quarterback and roster talent situation can be an enticement or deterrent. If a potential HC candidate views Caleb Williams and this roster as being good enough to work with (and add to) so he can have a legit shot at succeeding here, then that could be enough to entice Johnson (or another top candidate) to take the job. I would imagine the Bears are in better shape there than some of the other teams wanting head coaches this coming season. And one other positive is that the Bears usually give a coach some time to prove themselves. Some teams have a hair trigger on firing HCs. And finally,
