umm....I saw Mitch play and....um....no, He wasn't better. He couldn't beat out Mason Randolph or any of those other backup QBs the Steelers had before signing Wilson.
We'll see if Caleb can beat anyone out when he's gone from the Bears, shuffled off to obscurity too.
Steelers apparently collect Bears castoffs at QB, He's got a good 6 years still left in the league to collect his money.
Fields had poor OLs also but people made the narrative that he held the ball too long.
There are a lot of reasons, that have nothing to do with Justin Fields himself, about why he did not work out in Chicago.
Caleb is perfectly capable of becoming a good NFL QB that ends our search for the next ten years. We need to give him a winner at HC and an OL and he will be fine.
+1 The frustrating part for fans is the fact that this is so fixable. It is doable. But the franchise seems snake bit and fail by making the same mistakes over and over again. The Bears can fix the OL... it really isn't THAT tough to do because the team has the resources to do just that. Hiring a good coach is more difficult. But the team has whiffed on a lot of coaches spanning a lot of years now... that shouldn't happen.
Regarding the OL, we all agree it needs more talent. No one here disputes that.
However, there are a lot of bad OLs in the NFL. Most teams have OL problems. There simply aren't that many good OLinemen out there. There's only a handful of teams that have a "good OL".
I would point out that Chris Morgan has been OL coach for several years now. He was kept when Getsy was fired. Has anyone on our OL developed or improved while he has been here? Nope. We are talking about basic stuff here too. Yesterday the broadcasters pointed out that the Bears were missing simple A-gap blitzes over and over. They can't handle even the most basic stunt. How this guy still has a job is beyond me.
I would also add that good OCs can call plays that help out a shaky OL and slow down a pass rush. That was pointed out in the broadcast yesterday too. It was as bad a performance by an OC as the games when Fields got wrecked by the Browns or Cutler got destroyed by the NYG. We have surrendered 15 sacks the last 2 weeks to two teams that had no pass rush at all coming in. A few on those are on Caleb for sure but most fall on the OC and Morgan.

Apparently, if you don't post it over and over and over and over you think Poles is a genius...but I digress.
Teams with bad OLs make game planning adjustments all the time. I'm still laughing about the one play where Williams rolled left and the called routes had all the WRs breaking off to the right. What was that?
Still not enough tosses to the outside with Swift and power runs with Johnson between the tackles (yes I know you need them to do both, please don't assume I'm an idiot.) Slants (have the Bears run one all season) curls to Kmet over the middle, screens AND NOT TO WRS!!!
Warner was on twitter saying the routes as designed are letting 2 defenders guard 3 pass catchers. I knew Waldron wasn't an elite OC but dude...I could do what he's doing.

All true
Warner and Tim Jenkins are both openly mocking the Bears play calls and route concepts. The OC is a freaking moron. As usual, the Bears ALWAYS MAKE THE WORST CHOICE when they hire someone new.
And there's a lotta people here who act like you need 5 1st round OLs to have a competent offense. Yes, obviously you want your OL to be as good as it can be but its ridiculous to think that a "bad OL" means you can't score more than 3 points or throw for over 100 yards.
Most teams in the NFL have a "bad OL". The Chiefs went all the way to the SB a few years ago with a "bad OL". So did the Bengals. They both lost but it obviously can be done. [BTW, both those teams made wholesale changes to their OL right afterwards but they still made it to the SB.]

I understand your point. But I'd add two thoughts for what they're worth. In fairness, I think most fans understand it is not about where in the draft you get your guys so much as just picking the right guys. If the Patriots can get a Tom Brady in the 6th round, then kudos to them. Fans just want good players wherever you get them.
Historically, the Bears did best when they had good offensive lines (1985 and 2006 super bowls) that were not built with all high draft picks. I think most people on this messageboard (if not all of us) just want a good OL here. How they get it is not our job. They pay professionals to do this right, and it is their job - not ours.
Second, I do disagree that it's hard to put together a good offensive line and most teams have bad ones. Admittedly, I'm no expert by any means... just a fan. But the games I watch each year have a lot of teams with good offensive lines. They are performing better than what I watch on gamedays with the Bears. And even if that were the case (that most offensive lines are bad in the NFL) the Bears should still focus on having a good OL. I say that due to our history of failure with quarterbacks and offenses here, LOL, we need all the help we can get, and our quarterbacks sure as heck need all the help they can get. We all just want the Bears to win. Get the best players and coaches. We just fall short getting it done here.
