... chairman George McCaskey, whose hiring committee identified Poles and Eberflus nearly three years ago. Under McCaskey’s tenure, the Bears have won zero playoff games, are on their fifth head coach and third GM and could be moving on to their 10th offensive coordinator.
We all knew it was bad, but I had no idea it was THAT bad with George McCaskey in charge.
I still do not blame George. The man WANTS to win. And they have thrown money at it. They have tried many times with different consultants. He wants to win for his mother too. I do not believe they are being cheap and I do not believe they aren't trying. I think it's much more simple. They do not know how to get it done and keep relying on people that have led them down the wrong path. I do think part of it is his fault though. He is running this more like a corporate enterprise rather than a sports enterprise. I think Virginia is partially at fault here. She is an older woman and I get the impression she is prim and proper. I don't mean that as a negative or anything. Just that she is a polite person and likes polite people around her.
I think some of the criteria they are putting on the people they hire are too restrictive and are culling out some of the personality traits that make a winner. Halas knew how to pick a winner. They are looking for a nice, proper face of the franchise for the cameras. That has been said before and was a major criteria in a past search. I say, fine. But move that down the priority tree. Get someone that is a proven winner and has fire in their belly. But those guys win and don't get let go until they start losing. Harbaugh was a rare opportunity. Now we have to go and divine which of the unproven co-ordinators will be the next successful HC. and our track record has not been good here. Or someone that has been a HC before and has not succeeded. We think we bring him here and he will succeed because of the talent. IDK. It is going to be hard to get the right guy IMO. We just don't know what to look for apparently.

Yeah, that seems like the case here. And for the record, I don't hate any of these people. I do believe they are good people trying to be successful and falling short. If by chance they do get the coaching staff right, and focus on putting a good offensive line in front of Caleb, this team could be a very good one as early as next season. But, as you pointed out, the track record of hiring coaches has not been good here. We can only hope they do get it right this next time.

I have to say I think it all goes back to Virginia. She's running it like a family. All the face of the franchise and politeness and camera appearance etc is likely part of it. It goes way back. Who cancelled the Honeybears? Virginia. That was the first indication the Bears were a family and not a sports team. IT's been all downhill since then.
