If this guy isn't fired, Poles needs to be fired. He said the reason he did not run another play before the field goal try was because he was afraid the offense would fumble the ball. Yeah, you read that right. He goes for it on 4th down, and no worries there, but here he is worried they would fumble. When cornered, he just doubles down. Never any wrong decisions. He just keeps saying he's right and justifies it with more stupid.

Yeah when you coach like that, you tell your players you have zero self-confidence and don't know how to close out games.  

When you coach scared, you usually lose and Flus is the worst situational football coach I can recall right now.  How many 4th Q leads has this guy choked away now?

But still they won't fire him in-season cuz that might "look bad".  This whole organization talks a big game about accountability but they rarely walk the walk.  Like I said, management has a very disturbing tendency towards tolerating mediocrity and even outright failure.

Even Dave Wannstedt wouldn't make a call like that.

If I may digress.  Abe Lucas coming off knee injury had his first game of the season today.  He is a damn good right tackle when healthy — better than Wright.  I mention this, because he was drafted 72nd in the 2022 draft. Velus Jones was drafted 71st.  I have never forgiven Poles for that pick (among others).

I was reading that a lot of decisions were taking away from Poles. If he wants to do any kind of roster move he must consult the higher ups first.

People are trying to defend this call, funny most of them are Lions and Packers fans, two teams with aggressive coaches. Line Rome or Moore up at the numbers, bring in Everett, Lewis, Kmet and an OL-man on the line. Johnson is the back. Either give the ball to Johnson or run playaction and throw it up to Rome/Moore. You have the timeout. If its incomplete, try again with a run. Take every yard you need to get closer.

My heart sank when I realized they were pissing away two downs there.  Yes, if they had managed the clock right during that final drive they would have had two more solid opportunities.  And how "Bears like" was it that they could not block for that field goal?  I've watched and re-watched that failed block a number of times since the loss.  Bears just can't get it done blocking.  



Watching that Chargers game last night it's clear that Harbaugh values the dudes in the trenches.  He hasn't been there very long at all but he already has a better OL than what Poles/Eberflus have done here in 3 years.  The announcers last night were talking about how they now have Rashawn Slater and Joe Ald (drafted this year with their 5th overall pick of the draft) as their tackles - and how they will be the best bookend tackles in the entire NFL.  Guys who can actually block dudes.
