Bears vs Vikings Thread. Time to move on from GB game.

I think Flus has a checklist of ways to lose games and he's working his way through it. This time, I think the Bears will be down one and Williams will drive them to the 15 yardline, 4th down, 20 seconds left, and Vikings with 1 TO. Flus will kick the FG going up 2. Santos drives the KO through the endzone and Vikings start on the 30.

First down incomplete, second down incomplete and then a scramble for 7 yards, Vikings call TO with 8 seconds left. On 4th down, Flus calls for a cover-0 with a 7 man blitz package. Addison jukes Stevenson at the line and runs down the sideline wide open. Easy TD as time expires.

At his post game presser Flus loses it with reporters:

YOU TOLD ME TO BE MORE AGRESSIVE! YOU TOLD ME! I WANTED TO SIT BACK LIKE I DID AGAINST WASHINGTON BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU GENISUS TOLD ME TO GO FOR THE WINS!! F YOU ALL!!

And he's fired the next day by Virginia herself.

I think they drive to the 10 yard line, with 15 seconds left. Then he decides to let time run out to 3 seconds and kick a field goal. As he is waiting for the clock to run down, he loses focus and starts to hallucinate about the lakefront and how beautiful it is. The clocks runs out before they have a chance to kick and they lose the game.

He then files a complaint with the league accusing them of keeping the beautiful lakefront from him and causing emotional distress leading to the loss. He also files a complaint with the league for good measure.

Well, we got through Packers Bears week with only few scars. Still bearable to most of you..or so I think.

Now we can join forces and knock the Vikings out of this race for the North. You guys get them to 8-3 on Sunday, and we will finish them off in December.

Another home game for the Bears. Minny is better on the carpet. Advantage Bears there.

The Vikings last 3 games have been the Titans, Jags and Colts. I feel the Bears are better than all 3.

The Bears are back on track. Now is the week to get more people to be believers.

Same applies to the OL he brought in. A little update from the Seahawks forum today.  After laying out for a year, right tackle Abe Lucas came back yesterday matched up against Nick Bosa. Abe graded out highest of anyone on the OL (pass=74, run=79).  Seahawks drafted him right after Poles drafted V. Jones.  butkus would love Lucas. He’s a master technician. I read that and I also remember reading that he had his choice of whatever he wanted. Both could be true. Management had gone through and vetted three guys and they may have said something like "hey we went through an extensive process and narrowed it down to these three that look really good but you can do whatever you want". Being new and wanting to be on the good side of his new owners, being short on time and thinking, hey.... they did all the work for me. I can take advantage of that and if the guy is a dud, they can't blame me too much.

It is hard to really know the true story, but my point is that if Flus was not really his true choice, maybe we stand a chance. But then I go back to his retaining Flus when he could have had Harbaugh and I lose faith again. Bottom line is we have no idea how this is going to pan out. All we know for sure is that the HC hiring record has been dismal. 

Not just Flus.  Doesn’t Poles have a say on the crappy other coaches that have come in?

A)  To my knowledge, Poles was handed a list of pre-approved HC candidates (Flus, Quinn, and possibly one other) and told to pick in effect.  There's little doubt about this as Flus was hired only 2 days after Poles was.  As you detailed, he didn't really have a "choice" outside of that list.  

B)  I'm certainly not giving him a pass though either.  Quinn has been by far the better choice and keeping Flus last offseason was idiotic.  I too wanted Harbaugh and we are 7-3 right now if he had been hired.  Don't get me started again...

I'm just trying to be optimistic and realistic.  The ownership of this team is terrible--they don't learn from past mistakes, they're fearful of change, they value "stability" even when things are going downhill, and they live off dividends so they are pretty cheap.  I can't see them eating dead years of salary for BOTH a HC and a GM.  

So IMO Poles is "safe" for now.  They aren't gonna fire him.  He drafted Caleb and he should get to see it through even though he has f'd up the HC and OL situations thus far.  I'm mad at Poles too right now but also don't think we should change GMs 1 year into a new QB.

LOL, but they wouldn't even fire him then.  I'm serious.  This guy has bumbled away 5 games in the most inconceivable ways and no one in this organization is even mildly ashamed.

They have near endless levels of patience for ineptitude.

There is precedent. Emery and Graves were both fired after THREE years with WORST records than Poles.  McCaskey says he grades GMs by W-L record. If that’s true, Poles may be on a hotter seat than you think.  Let Warren take charge of this whole thing.

Warren can't be bothered with this stuff.  He's been camping out on the southside Micheal Reese weedpatch for weeks now, dreaming of the stadium he wants the Chicago Park District to build there.  It's the most beautiful weedpatch in the nation you know.

They were fired together yes.  And the HC was Trestman.

Again, I'm trying to be realistic here.  There was an open locker room rebellion, the QB was benched, and the OC was actively badmouthing players to the press.  There also wasn't a newly drafted QB attached to the GM.  Think the circumstances were different.

I think it is highly unlikely Poles is in any danger yet.

Emery was different, but not Graves.

Wannstedt was doing 9-7 seasons and apparently that wasn’t good enough for McCaskey.  Why would 7 wins work for Poles when 9 didn’t work for Graves?  This may be too soon, but if we’re still 3rd or 4th in the division in 2025, that is year-4. Is this going to be like Ryan Pace who got 7 years?
