Whow, whow, whow, who said anything about micro fracture surgery? We're all getting down on Fox for possibly not giving the full story then all of a sudden a totally different ailment is just thrown out there and it's gobbled up by everyone. Isn't assuming a completely different injury about as bad as not giving the full story. Am I missing something here?
Fellas, it'll be OK, take a deep breath. Even if they put him on the PUP list, it's not the end of the world, it's only 6 weeks. I would rather have him come back with 10 weeks remaining and fully healthy than come back too early and screw it up again.
As far as the quote from Willy Young, you don't know what his frame of reference is. he could have been referring to an injury and surgical technology from back in the 70's or 80's where simple torn carteledge could have easily been career threatening. It's impossible to know what he really meant without knowing how far back he was thinking.
Everyone go have a beer.
I think we're reaching the "if it walks like a duck, and quacks like duck" kind of stage here as far as McPhee's injury and surgery goes. Fuller is having his knee scoped and they're talking about him being ready to play within a few more weeks. Even as early as the opener or at most a week or two after. That may be a little quicker than average but it's not completely uncommon if it's not too serious or at least not based on my own experiences with it many years ago even.
But with a micro fracture surgery, if you read through and follow the proscribed rehab being suggested, the recovery time is more typically 3 months. Based on that he would have been good to go by June and maybe even participated in the OTAs then. We're well beyond that now and beyond camp and 3/4 of the preseason and he's still not ready to go and more likely than not will be placed on the PUP. All I'm saying is that doesn't compute when matched with what was said earlier about him having a "routine" procedure to clean up some minor issues that cost him time and performance last year.
I'll take the blame for starting the thought or rumor about micro fracture surgery but it's based on more than just a wild guess. It's what's only considered if there's a more serious and chronic condition that needs to be treated and the scuttlebutt that Baltimore was aware that such a condition existed before allowing McPhee to become a UFA plays into this as well. Once you begin adding up rumors couple with facts it's not much of a stretch to come to the conclusion I have as at least one possibility and Willie Young's comment comes from someone who knows what it's like to rehab and recover from a potentially career ending injury.
Anyway, do I need to bring my own chilled mug or will you have one for me?
