Week 1: Bears vs Texans

I actually think we'd played a pretty damn good game for 30 minutes and then apparently some coaches and players must have it written into their contracts that they can take the other 30 minutes off.

The botched snap (which is on Whitehair, the ball never even got into Cutler's hands) cost us a drive and a shot at being up 14-0.  The blown route by KW cost us another drive and gave 3 points to Houston.  Rookie mistakes and very costly ones since if you subtract 3 points from their score and add 7 more to ours we win the game. 21-20.

I thought the major coaching blunders were in some very poor second half play calling and failure to adjust and in Fox not challenging that spot on that 4th and 1 gift Houston got that led to a score. Osweiler never even got the ball past the LOS. He was stood up and he actually lost a yard and yet they spotted the ball a yard and a half ahead of that?  Bull shit spot and I can't believe he failed to challenge that yet challenged what was an obvious catch later in the game.

I gotta be honest here.  After some bad decisions last year too I'm rapidly losing my faith in Fox as a game day coach.  He reminds me a lot of Lovie.

Im not gonna blame the refs for our loss, that would be weak, but I am sometimes amazed watching NFL games how a multi-billion dollar industry could have such poor officiating.  

I just dont don't get how the zebras can blow it sooooo badly.  That spot want even close.  How the hell does that happen?

**** The Score.  This idiots will find more shit to bitch about than even I can.  It was the proper play call but Whitehair got a case of the jumps and didn't execute the snap well.  I'll lay $100 it never happens again.

The push up front was good.  He makes a routine snap and we take a 2 score lead.  No excuse for that fuckup.

Loggains is a retard and that is why he's on his final team as OC (aka Martz, Tice,  Kromer, now the midget) we Bear Fans get to watch this incompetence again and again and again. 

Guys, that's a fucking high school play.  Whitehair screwed it up.  Can't blame Loggains for that.

I don't think strenght is lacking in whitehair, it's experience and going up against a stud NT. Why not go w/a better option in running that behind on of the G's?

He was already moving against the NT to be sure he would not get rolled. But being ready doesn't matter if you haven't given the ball to the QB because then there is nothing to be  ready for.

You make some good points.  The team is young and will get better.  They didn't fall apart like some probably expected the Bears to do today.  Facing a quality opponent (especially that Houston D) was probably a good test.  I came away with the feeling the team did better than I thought they would.  There is something to build on here, and I'll bet this 2016 team is going to decent.  

But they did fall apart on offense.  It was as bad as anything I saw during the preseason which is still about where they are right now offensively.  It took a nearly perfect QBR in the first half for Cutler to keep them in the game and then in the second half the offense simply cratered around him.

For a brief time I thought we might finally be over the hump and then predictable overly conservative game management from the sidelines, another poor coaching decision, and a total collapse of the pass protection happened again.  Unless these guys can learn to play 60 minutes of football they're gonna get roasted by any decent team including all three of the other NFCN teams.

I don't care how much better the personnel looks until they're schemed correctly and play up to their level of competence this team won't progress.  I have to write a column about just that every week and I'd love to be optimistic but until they show me some reasons to be my column is gonna sound more critical than optimistic because I call 'em as I see 'em.

I honestly expected the team to look worse than it did yesterday on offense.  My hope for this season is unchanged.  I thought the team would look rough initially, and it did, but I do expect to see steady improvement in each game throughout the season.  I'm ready to move on to game 2 and see if the team improves.

I was pleasantly surprised to see them moving the ball well initially and then again via two big plays just before the half but we had no answer for Houston's half time adjustments.  None at all.

It's like every card in our deck was played in the first half and that was it.  They countered and we had nothing left to play except calling the same plays over gaining a few yards here and losing a few there.  They completely controlled our offense in the second half.  No make that throttled us.

Like I said before it's not the loss that bothers me.  I expected to lose.  It's how we lost.  Fox and Loggains have to do better than that offensively.  Making the assumption that your game plan will progress uninterrupted all game long with no need for any adjustments to counter theirs was just plain dumb football to me.

Like Lovie before him I have a lot of respect for John Fox's ability to build respect and a great culture among his players but also like Lovie I'm beginning to have serious misgivings about his offensive approach to NFL football when he call running aggressive in a league that's undeniably pass centric.  Of all of his post game comments to me that one was the most inane. 

Right now most of the media and most knowledgeable fans are going huh.....did he just say that?

Like great QBs great coaches are also hard to come by. Could've of should've of would've of had Arians but like all chi-town teams missed it by that much when you have a proverbial moron at the top that is consider intellectual. How I see Fox is a guy that is mediocre at best but, at least when he gets canned he may leave something for the next coach to work as a foundation.
