Porter's unfazed 'cuz he knows he's the best we have. His job's not on the line, though it should be. After our future QB, I think CB is the next most important thing to address next year, no matter what they can pickup to help this year.
I still can't believe somebody stole my name... If it ever happens again, you can find out by asking how he picked it. Here's the real story on it: some drinking buddies gave me the nickname shark because I used to circle women in the bars, and when the timing was right I would hit 'em hard, like a shark feeding frenzy. It helps that shark rhymes with my real name. So i tried signing up on a site as shark, but it was taken, so I threw 86 on the end for Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Believe it or not, THAT was taken, so I slapped an "x" on the end and I was in. Of course, when my wife asked, the story was, well, the guy that came up with it was in the Navy, and so I was Mark the Shark.
He's unfazed? Well, the rest of us are fazed enough for all of us. From what I can see, it is a weak spot on the roster.
Weak or just inexperienced? I believe there's a difference but realistically only Fangio and Donatell can judge that well so far. We haven't seen enough of them in games yet to know.
Putting aside Fuller and Callahan, who really belongs in the slot not the edge, we've got Hall, Glenn, Bausby and Calhoun all of whom have some decent credentials as college players but they're as raw as sushi. So the question is can one or more of these guys step up well enough to be trusted to start out on that CB island where Fangio likes to run a lot of press man coverage at times?
If Hall can overcome some of his physical limitations like Peanut did and learn to play in a receivers hip pocket using his size and strength to control him and his reach to defend with he probably has the best shot at it. One way or another we have to develop at least one of these guys into a potential starter or CB is gonna be high on the draft list next year again.
Given what vet FAs are asking for and getting we pretty much know that Pace won't go out and sign one so it will have to be a draftee at a time when TE and OL are really the positions we need to be focused on next draft. Donatell has done a good job of coaching up CBs and Safeties so I guess we'll have to see how this all works out.
