I found myself getting pizzed several times watching the game , and I only get pizzed when I see this team doing enough good things to win the game . We doomed ourselves with a few key mistakes , but this was a winnable game .
It was a winnable game, but on the other hand they could've beat us by 15 or more
To be fair, I thought the Bears was going to get blown out.
Its just one game, but this one was a pure project, and it was extremely 'cover-my-ass' kind of game for our coaches. They could have started Larsen, Bellamy/Meredith and Houston, but they opted for giving experience to your young boys, and im ok with that, but its waaay to early in the season for that IMHO. This way they also had an excuse
I'm truly baffled by the decision to start Floyd instead of Houston and to pair him with Young. As has been pointed out before Floyd is a lot more similar to Young than Houston. Houston is going to command more dbl teams than Young thus creating more opportunities for Floyd (i.e. On Floyd's sack, Floyd was 1v1 with the LT while Houston was DBL teamed by a TE and RT). Similarly, Houston provides more protection against the run and screen game. I really don't get that move.
Again, I'm all for Floyd getting snaps but not as a starter - not yet - not considering his limited participation in TC and the Pre-Season and not in his limited understanding and ability in Fangio's defense which really limits the entire defensive unit.

Borderline winnable but yes, still winnable.
Like he says we're still ahead at the end of the 3rd Q. If that 3rd and 1 play is challenged and they take the FG instead of scoring it's a 16-14 game and a FG wins it. IIRC there were three separate 3rd down plays that failed and stopped drives even though Cutler delivered a catchable ball on each.
One was AJs drop, another was a OPI on Royal (my stream went down right as the penalty was called so I never saw a replay) so was that legit or did we get screwed on that one too, and there was another where Cutler threw to KW low but the ball was catchable. Can't recall now whether the KW screw up was 3rd Q or 4th Q. If the 4th Q that would be four drive stoppers.
If we'd have had any kind of reasonable offense in the 2nd half yeah, it was winnable.

So was the glass half empty or was it just to big to begin with?

I agree and though I didn't post the "film room review" as I did with Whitehair the opinion was pretty much in agreement with all of what Fangio had to say about him.
They called it a mediocre performance. Not bad but inconsistent and nothing very special for a player as highly drafted as Floyd was. He made a few good plays against the run but nothing someone else couldn't have done, one good pass break up, and half a sack. Yawn.
I'm left feeling the same as you belli. It's nothing Houston and Young in tandem could not have done as well or better. My question is so was this Fox's decision or Fangio's? I realize it's just one game but I still wonder whose calling the shot on personnel groupings? Is Fox creating a handicap for his coordinators or are they calling their own shots?
I can see starting Whitehair since Larsen wouldn't have been a much better choice and I do believe he can get much better much faster than our other two inexperienced insertions. Starting White may have made some sense but once I saw how ineffective he was I would have sat him and playing Floyd more over Young and Houston made no sense at all to me.

White needs to be compared to the next best WR on the team since he's serving as the #3 WR. I'm assuming that's either Josh Bellamy or Cameron Meredith. I think White has more potential and provides more matchup issues than Meredith and Bellamy so him being on the field isn't a liability in the same way Floyd being on the field is. In short, I think White CAN DO everything Bellamy and Meredith can do so the difference between White and the next WR down the roster list is negligible. As such it makes sense to start White as the #3 receiver to get him reps.
I DON'T think Floyd can do everything Houston or Young can do and he's more of a liability for the team since he forces more simplistic play calling do to his lack of familiarity with the defense AND his overall inexperience as a NFL OLB.

There was some pushing and shoving, Royal did extend an arm. Didn't outright stiff arm the defender though. I've seen players do worse and not get called, I've also seen players get called for less. It didn't strike me as a particularly bad call.

OK. All I caught was the end of the play where Royal tumbled. They said flag on the play so I figured PI on Houston and then the stream shut down so I had no isolated replay to see. By the time I got it back Houston had the ball and I was like WTF!! Just didn't know if we got hosed or not. Thanks xaos.

There I would disagree. He can do far more IF he was playing up to his 4.35 speed and with some decent precision in his routes but he's not. Houston wasn't doubling him they were doubling AJ. At a certain point KW ceased to be much of a threat to them and they knew it.
I expect to see him starting again and I hope he plays better this week but if not there comes a point where I think you have bench him in favor of receivers Cutler does have confidence in and Bellamy and Meredith have earned that. Hell there were times they were all he had last year.
I'm not completely opposed to the "throw him off the dock in the deep water" to teach him to swim approach but if it continues to hamper the offense and cost us games then I think you have to make a switch.
On Foyd I agree and I still have to wonder who made that decision, Fox or Fangio because what Fangio got from him is exactly what he described in his presser. An uneven performance with little or no impact plays. If we have better players we should play better players.
