So here's the question: Is it more important to be the highest paid player in the league or to win super bowls? I don't believe you can have both...

I'll take the SBs pt but we also know there's no way to not pay Aaron. All the Ryan deal does is reinforce the mark he was shooting for anyway. Do you think he'll ask Guntekust to top it or will he be OK with whatever they offer that more or less matches it.
If any one player consumes so much of the cap that it impacts the competitiveness of the team I can't see what purpose it serves to do that. No matter how you cut it a $30 mil annual salary will make a huge dent in anyone's cap but as long as the cap keeps rising by 5%-6% each year it should be survivable.
It's pretty easy to see why teams are lining up for rookie QBs whom they can control more cheaply for 4 or 5 years.
If he follows in the steps of Tom Brady he’ll take one for the team. I’m very interested to see the route he takes.
I don't know what clever structures may be legal now but maybe some kind of deferred comp plan based on a signing bonus that can be spread out will help at least for now. The problem is eventually at least all of what's guaranteed will need to be accounted for in the cap and more if he earns beyond that. All you can really do is stretch it out as long as possible.

I look at it like this: If Rodgers gives the Packers a deal, say by 10 million/year: The Packers new GM who utilizes FA can put 1-2 extra FA's around him. He wins a SB or three I'd imagine he'd make up the 10 million easily in advertising money... Perhaps 10 fold....
Hopefully he plays a round of golf with his buddy Brady and lets this seep in...

That's a lot to hope for but Danica is worth about $70 mil so even if he accepts a hair cut they can still eat out once a week. LOL
I'll be keeping an eye on this one. It's a crucial negotiation for GB.
One thing I've never seen is how much a QB would have to sign for to allow a team to add a FA or two.
Most likely this is all wrong but:
Ryan is going to average 30 mil. So if Rogers signed for 25 mil, does that 5 mil difference really translate to 1-2 mid tier FA? Seems like he'd have to drop to 15 mil to equal the 14 mil that Robinson got this season from the Bears.
Maybe someone who know more about the nuts and bolts of NFL contracts can correct me here.
