At least you missed the crazy cold winters we had a few years ago where it was in the negative teens for so long... and the amount of snow was unreal. That winter almost killed me.
I have been to both the Dalmatian coast in Croatia and the Costa del Sol in Spain where malagabears lives (assuming his member name is accurate). Tough choice. Both really wonderful. Lots of crime in Spain but mostly in the big cities. Get to the smaller towns and some really beautiful laid back places. I expect the same is true in Croatia.
Yeah crime in Spain has spiked in the last 10 years to record levels. Even Málaga as Chuckster says has gotten a bit more violent but I still love it.
The last time I was there was in the summer of 2014. IMO the crime was nowhere near what I saw in Madrid or Barcelona. At least not in the touristy old town area.

I'll tell you what. I agree we're not owed anything with our tenure there but I've seen some of the above mentioned run good posters completely out of the building. I remember many skeletons in their closet.
