Texans' Rookie WR John Metchie III Diagnosed With Leukemia

Metchie released a statement via the Texans' social media page.

"Recently, I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia," Metchie wrote. "I am currently receiving great medical care, I am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I likely will not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. I cannot wait to come back stronger than ever."

Here's hoping to a quick and complete recovery.

Metchie was a 2nd round pick, in-between Gordon and Brisker.

Sporting News Draft Grade:

"Metchie uses his technical skills, including quickness and route-running, to flat-out make big plays. The Texans moved up to get his outside No. 1 qualities to pair with Nico Collins and Brandin Cooks to boost the strong-armed Davis Mills in Year 2.

That sucks. Really hoping he quickly gets back on his feet.

You know, despite everything wrong with the health care industry (and the list is extensive), there are some amazing things possible today. APL is primarily fought with drugs, chemo isn't as extensive as it is with other cancers (leukemia is cancer of the blood). They have had definite success putting this form of leukemia into remission but I don't know anything about undoing any damage done and it does target bones and joints, making joint pain a big aspect.
