That one was very quick. When that play happened, the Texans got back on the field and snapped the ball before the replay was televised. I don't know if the franchises are limited to what they see plus what is being broadcast to determine if they should challenge.
Point is that the Texans knew that they could get away with one if they got the next play in the book quickly enough. Technically legal. I'm more inclined to call that good coaching on the Texans than bad coaching on Fox.
Or am I thinking of a different play?
That was the play I was talking about. All Fox had to do is call a timeout and have them up stairs look at it than challenge if what we thought it was I'll give up timeout for possibly getting the ball back. Instead he gives them another TD that is being out coached . Boy, a bears coach being out coached what a shock. NOT!
Just to play devil's advocate, if Fox had called a timeout to buy time, then challenged the play and lost, wouldn't that have been a loss of two timeout's on one play?

The 1st time out should make it possible for them to make a decision whether they have a strong case of winning the challenge or not. If it comes down to them saying "well maybe" don't challenge it now if their grandmother can see it's obvious holy shit he doesn't have 2 feet in than more than likely the challenge is going to win. They over think this challenge stuff if when looking at couple times during a timeout they can't decide or it's so so don't challenge. Now if you haven't called a timeout but you believe in your football skills sense that it didn't look right than challenge losing only one timeout in all scenarios.

And if he lost the challenge, everyone would be posting that Fox is a f'ing idiot and has no idea what he is doing. Not saying he is the finest coach in the NFL but he is far from the worse.
I was hoping that Fox would be a breathe of fresh air for the Bears but I'm beginning to believe he is no more than a poor mans Lovie.
There are times when it looks that way doesn't it?
If Lovie's defense he has some pretty poor or mediocre at best offenses although he was at least partly to blame for that. But Fox does not have a poorly staffed offense so this idea of reining Cutler in and going with any over dependence on the run are hard to figure out beyond the thinking that it's where his "comfort zone" lies.
But I clearly don't want to hear any more of those arrogant comments like him disagreeing that an over dependence on a run game is being "aggressive" in his mind because then I'm gonna think senility has set in. Jeezus Johnny this isn't the 1980's the NFL is now a passing league. Get with the program will ya or we'll always be lagging the better teams.
He's also gonna have to explain to me just how his RB by committee approach works when on Sunday it was a committee of one and that one may not be his best RB.

Yep. I'm still confused about which play we're talking about here. Was it the one just before the TD where Glenn was injured and had to come out or a different one?
All coaches make mistakes. I'm a Belichick fan, but I've watched his mistakes over the years too. Some have been pretty big ones. I think some Bears fans/media put Pace and Fox under a microscope and 2nd guess every move. Same with Pace.
It's probably better to take a higher-level look at the work product produced over time by these guys. And Chicago work product. Not their past histories.
Fox, like all coaches, needs a reasonable level of talent to perform well here in Chicago, and Pace has the task of feeding him enough talent to succeed. We are only 1 game into the 2nd season. The team has been gutted since Pace/Fox inherited the Emery/Trestman team. They even went from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense. So, basically, we have a new roster. New coaches. New schemes. And we've just entered the 2nd season.
I "get it" that some people are already calling Pace and Fox "idiots" but I think the people putting final judgement on these two guys at this early stage are the idiots.
Not challenging a play in the 1st game doesn't worry me. Now. If there is a bunch of mistakes over time, that is different. But the measuring stick I'm going to use for Pace and Fox is the wins that they produce over time - and - if the team improves and continues to get better. Those two things matter to me. The microscope stuff in a single game on a single call - in the 1st game of the season with a mob of new players doesn't get me worked up very much.
I want to see a greater sample of their work product before I get upset. LOL, now next season, in 2017, we'd better be seeing a solid playoff level team. That will be the 3rd year of the rebuilding effort. I think it is reasonable to expect a lot of improvement over the Emery/Trestman team, by the 3rd season under Pace/Fox.
With the team he has Bad Billy can more easily afford to get away with some bad decisions. It's all relative and winning a lot can change a perspective pretty quickly.

Generally I agree, but to me Fox hasn't changed since last season. Horrible game day decisions, questionable OFF play calling with the game on the line...all typical Fox from last season. I do think the team will play better as the season progresses, not sure yet if that will mean more wins. Consensus was that they could start 2-2 or 3-1. I'm hoping for 1-3. Next year though, I'm buying the rights to firejohnfox.com if we don't see real improvement.
